Little Brown Bat — Myotis lucifugus
The little brown bat is a small, insect-eating bat found throughout New Brunswick.
It is recognized by its glossy brown fur, rounded ears, and small size. Like other bats, it uses echolocation to navigate and locate insects in the dark.
Little brown bats feed primarily on flying insects, including moths, mosquitoes, and beetles, often hunting over water, wetlands, and forest edges.
They spend the winter in sheltered places such as caves and abandoned mines, where they hibernate through the colder months.
