Purple Pitcher Plant —
Sarracenia purpurea
The purple pitcher plant is a striking carnivorous plant recognized by its low-growing, purple-green pitchers and deeply veined, hooded leaves.
It grows in acidic bogs, fens, and other nutrient-poor wetlands, where its pitchers collect rainwater and trap insects. The plant gets nutrients from its insect prey, allowing it to thrive in environments where the soil is low in nutrients.
Purple pitcher plants are native to New Brunswick and can be found growing in wetlands across the province.
