Field Tomatoes — Solanum lycopersicum
Tomatoes are warm-season plants in the nightshade family, grown for their colourful, fleshy fruit.
Their small yellow flowers develop into fruit that ripens in shades of red, orange, yellow, and green, depending on the variety.
A familiar sight in New Brunswick gardens and fields, tomatoes are harvested throughout the warmer months, with their peak season arriving in late summer and early autumn.
