FIELD GUIDE NOTES
Black-capped Chickadee — Poecile atricapillus
The black-capped chickadee is a small, familiar songbird recognized by its black cap and throat, white cheeks, and soft grey body.
It lives year-round across much of Canada and is commonly found in forests, woodland edges, parks, and backyards.
Chickadees feed on insects, seeds, and berries, and are well known for their distinctive “chick-a-dee-dee-dee” call and their ability to remain active through cold northern winters.
