FIELD GUIDE NOTES
Brook Trout — Salvelinus fontinalis
Brook trout are a freshwater char native to eastern North America, known for their speckled bodies, worm-like markings along the back, and brilliant orange fins edged with white.
They are most often found in cool, clear streams, rivers, and lakes, where clean, well-oxygenated water is essential to their survival.
In New Brunswick, brook trout are one of the province’s most familiar and well-loved fish, valued both for their beauty and their place in local waters.
