FIELD GUIDE NOTES
Mourning Dove — Zenaida macroura
Mourning doves are slender, soft-coloured birds known for their long pointed tails, dark wing spots, and gentle, mournful cooing call.
They are commonly found in open habitats such as fields, roadsides, farms, woodland edges, and residential areas, where they feed mostly on seeds.
Mourning doves are widespread across North America and can be seen in New Brunswick during the warmer months, with some remaining later in the season where conditions allow.
